What Are Criminal Defense Attorneys

Video Source

A criminal defense attorney has a host of responsibilities and a tough job overall. This video explains what defense attorney is and how they make a living.

Criminal defense attorneys are either privately hired or work for a court and are assigned to indigent persons who don’t have a personal defense attorney, who are known as public defenders.

In the US, criminal defense attorneys deal with issues surrounding arrest, criminal charges, sentencing, appeals, probation, and more. They often will specialize in a more specific case like criminal drug use or DUI defense.

You don’t need to wait until you are arrested or charged with a crime to hire a criminal attorney. Attorneys may be hired if a person believes they are being investigated for a crime or have been arrested but not charged. This gives the attorney a better chance of building a solid case from the ground up.

The criminal attorney needs to understand the US Constitution, like the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments. All of the amendments are applicable to a criminal defendant so the lawyer needs to know the ins and outs of each, as well as historical precedents.
