If you haven’t heard of a fire watch service before, there are a few things to know. Keep reading to learn what a fire watch service is.
A fire watch service is one or more certified personnel assigned to physically walk the building, facility, or premises, looking for signs of fire and/or smoke. Fire watch is implemented in the event that a fire alarm system, sprinkler, or suppression system, is out of service even partially for any reason.
The 2018 edition of the NFPA-101 Life Safety Code defines that a fire watch is designated to perform the following tasks: Notifying the fire department and building occupants of an emergency, keeping diligent watch for fires, preventing a fire from occurring, extinguishing small fires using a portable fire extinguisher or hose, protecting the public from fire or life safety dangers, and warning the occupants of any hazardous conditions requiring evacuation.
The best fire watch services are certified, carry the proper certificate of fitness, and are able to act in the event of an emergency or during the temporary fire alarm system outage to keep your building, facility, or premises protected from potential fire.
