Tankless water heaters have a lot of benefits like endless hot water, but there are a couple of downsides not everyone tells you about. Keep reading to learn about tankless water heaters and what you should expect from one.
First, just like standard units, tankless water heaters required maintenance. How often you need maintenance depends on how hard your water is and how many people you have in your house.
For example, if you have hard water, you will need maintenance more frequently to remove calcium deposits and more people in your home also means more frequent maintenance.
Second, tankless water heaters use power. This means if your power goes out, you’re out of the water until it comes back in. This is different than a standard tank where you would still have enough water in the tank for a couple of showers if the power goes out.
Lastly, you have to think about freeze protection. Typically a tankless unit is placed somewhere in the interior of your home where this is no freezing, like a basement or garage. If you live in warmer climates you may be able to get away with keeping your tankless unit on the exterior of your home.
